Digitalising Recycled Plastic Content Reporting: Enhancing Transparency and Compliance in Single-Use Beverage Bottles for a Sustainable EU Single Market
This document provides feedback from the DigitalTrade4.EU consortium to the European Commission on the digitalization of recycled plastic content reporting for single-use beverage bottles. It emphasizes the strategic importance of the Digital Product Passport (DPP) in enhancing transparency, traceability, and compliance across the EU Single Market. The consortium advocates for the adoption of decentralized digital architectures, trusted digital identities (LEI/vLEI), and interoperable systems such as eIDAS 2.0 and MLETR to streamline regulatory processes and support SMEs. The document includes proposed amendments to the Commission’s Implementing Decision, real-world case studies demonstrating DPP effectiveness, and a roadmap for aligning EU digital and sustainability goals with global trade practices.
